The 61st BC Coastal Cup Championship Finals Kick Off This Weekend

Minoru Park in Richmond will host 22 games on Saturday and Sunday

Vancouver BC, April 24, 2014 –Richmond Soccer Association will host the 61st BC Coastal Cup Championship Finals this Saturday and Sunday at Minoru Park.  44 boys and girls teams will compete in six age categories as 22 teams will be crowned Coastal Cup Champions.

“The Coastal Cup is an incredible event and we are very excited to watch so many top youth soccer teams put it all on the line on Saturday and Sunday,” said Don Dancey, Youth Competition’s Chair and BC Soccer board of directors. “Minoru Park is an amazing venue to host the finals of the Coastal Cup and we want to thank Richmond Soccer Association for all of their hard work in organizing the event.”

The 22 boys and girls teams from U13-U18 come from across the lower mainland and Vancouver Island. All of the teams have been competing in the Coastal Cup for the last month with the hope of being crowned Coastal Cup Champion at this weekend’s finals. The championship matches begin at 9:00 A.M. and will run right through until the last kick off at 3:20 P.M. on both Saturday and Sunday.

“The Coastal Cup is one of the largest youth competitions and the final matches this weekend are sure to provide a lot of entertainment and excitement,” said Roger Barnes, President of BC Soccer. “ There are also going to be some great activations out at Minoru Park with BC Soccer’s Giant Inflatable Jersey making an appearance on Sunday which will give all players and fans of the competition an opportunity to wish the Canadian National Women’s Team good luck in the Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 by signing the giant jersey.”

The crowned champions of the Coastal Cup Finals will go on to represent their region within their age group at the Provincial Championships which are to be held in early July.
