Special Olympics British Columbia And Vancouver Whitecaps FC Team Up With BC Soccer For The Youth Provincial Cups July 4-7

Activations by Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Special Olympics British Columbia will make this one of the most memorable BC Soccer Youth Provincial Cups

Vancouver, BC, July 3, 2013 – Prince George, North Vancouver, and Langley will be host to the BC Soccer Youth Provincial Cups this July 4-7.  For the first time, Special Olympics BC will be sending eight of their teams to the Youth Provincial Cups to compete against one another in preparation for the upcoming Special Olympics BC Summer Games.  Joining Special Olympics BC in activating at the Provincial Cups will be Vancouver Whitecaps FC who will have various activations at Inter River Park in North Vancouver and Willoughby Fields in Langley including a free match as the Whitecaps FC Reserves take on the Seattle Sounders FC Reserves at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 7 in Langley.  

“This is the biggest soccer weekend of the year for all of the competing teams and it is such a great addition to have both Special Olympics BC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC on board to make it even more memorable,” said Paul Mullen, Director of BC Soccer. “Being able to partner with such great organizations really benefits everyone involved and we know all of the players and fans will remember these Provincial Cups for years to come.”

The Youth Provincial Cups will be held at three locations across British Columbia this July 4-7.  Prince George will be hosting the Les Sinnott Memorial Boys Provincial Cup while Inter River Park in North Vancouver will be hosting the Girls Provincial B Cup and Willoughby Fields in Langley will be host to the Youth Provincial A Cup. Special Olympics BC will have four teams competing against each other at both the Prince George and North Vancouver locations while Vancouver Whitecaps FC players will be on hand at Willoughby Field in Langley on July 7 as the Caps Reserves take on the Sounders Reserves.

“We are always looking for competitive games and this is the perfect opportunity for our teams to gain valuable experience before they compete in their Provincial Games the following week,” said Shawn Fevens, Special Olympics BC Manager, Sport.  “Being able to play at the same locations with the same referees as the Youth Provincial Cups is really exciting for all our players and it is a perfect opportunity for them to showcase their skill, sportsmanship, and competitiveness.”

The British Columbia Youth Provincial Cups will feature more than 130 teams at over three venues across British Columbia.  The youth teams, boys and girls, range from U-13 to U-18 and each team will be competing against other qualified teams from across the province for the chance to be crowned provincial champions.
