Vancouver BC April 19, 2018 – At 16 years old British Columbian’s Simon Colyn becomes the 15th youngest player in MLS history to sign an MLS contract. Simon began his soccer career at Langley United Youth Soccer Association prior to moving to the Surrey United Soccer Club of the BC Soccer Premier League, participating in the BC Soccer Provincial Program, before moving to Whitecaps Residency Program and finally with this signing Whitecaps FC’s first team.

This is great news and well deserved,” said Chris Cerroni, BC Soccer Director of Soccer Development.  It is always very rewarding to see committed players come through the system in place to earn their first Professional contract. Simon is one of the first products to come from the partnership of the BCSPL with BC Soccer and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and this is real credit to all those who have played a part to provide Simon with an evolving development environment and identification opportunities. We wish Simon all the best with the next steps in his career and hope that this will give more incentive and drive to BC players that aspire to become professional soccer players.”

Simon Colyn is an attacking midfielder who becomes the third British Columbian to sign a homegrown contract with Whitecaps FC in the last few months.  In March of 2018 Victoria’s Sean Melvin Signed with Whitecaps FC and in December of 2017, David Norman Jr signed with Vancouver Whitecaps FC as well. Furthermore Simon made his international debut in 2017 while at the U-15 Identification camp.
