EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League elects new President

Alex Barnetson elected new BCSPL President as David Haber steps down after three successful years in the role.

Vancouver BC, February 12 - At the 2015 EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) Annual General Meeting, President David Haber stepped down after serving as the inaugural and only BCSPL President since the league’s inception in 2011.  Elected to continue the good work of David and the Board of Governors is Alex Barnetson from Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC. 

Reflecting on three and a half years in guiding the growth and direction of the league, David Haber commented, “It has been a great experience working with everyone at the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League over the past three years and I wish everyone, and the league, the best moving forward. It was a tough decision for me to step down; however, I know the newly elected president Alex Barnetson will do an amazing job growing the league and helping create a player pathway for all young up and coming players in British Columbia.”

Alex Barnetson, currently the President of Coquitlam Metro-Ford added, “David Haber is to be commended for the steady strong leadership he provided. The BCSPL was founded on the principles of a development focused (player, coach and official), regionally distributed and concentrated, community club model. The BCSPL has successfully created a clear player pathway, enhanced cooperation and raised standards amongst participating clubs all while enhancing competition and contributing to an increase in the number players moving on to the next level.  There is still much work to do and it is my privilege, as newly elected president of the BCSPL, to work with all stakeholders in continuing to build and grow the league and the game.”

Alex Barnetson was elected President at the 2015 EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League’s 2015 Annual General Meeting and Alex will take over as the league president immediately. The BCSPL kicks off its fourth season on February 21, 2015.  

“We want to thank David Haber for all of the hard work and dedication he has put in to the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League over the last three years,” said Roger Barnes, BC Soccer President. “David played an integral part in helping this league succeed by developing more, stronger high performance players in BC. Although we are sad to see him step down we are confident that the newly appointed BCSPL President, Alex Barnetson, will continue to grow the league and build on the foundation that David has laid.”
