Coastal FC to host the top U18 soccer teams from across Canada in fall of 2014

Vancouver, BC: BC Soccer is very pleased to announce that Coastal FC has won the rights to host the Under-18 National Club Championships in 2014! The announcement was made following the most recent meeting of the Canadian Soccer Association Competitions Committee.

BC Soccer Youth Competitions Chair and representative on the CSA Competitions Committee Don Dancey said, “BC Soccer is delighted that the Club National Championships are coming to BC for the second consecutive year. Congratulations to our member club Coastal FC for winning the right to welcome the top U18 club teams from across Canada to BC”.

The National Club Championships are traditionally held over the Thanksgiving Day-weekend in October where the competition features the Provincial Champion boys and girls club teams from across the country. The tournament involves 24 teams––12 boys and 12 girls. The host province usually gets two berths, while the remaining provinces receive one, in both genders.

Coastal FC is a recent amalgamation of Peace Arch Soccer Club, Semiahmoo Soccer Club, and South Fraser FC.  Executive Director of Coastal FC Chris Murphy said "Coastal FC is pleased to have been selected as the host of the U18 Club Nationals in October 2014. Hosting provincial and national level events is part of the club's overall strategy.”

The planned venue for the event is the South Surrey Athletic Park. Chris Murphy added “We want to invite the clubs and teams from around the country to come and visit South Surrey/White Rock and to experience some of the best facilities a community club can offer. Our facilities, along with a professional approach to event delivery and execution will make this a competition to remember for participants and spectators alike."

BC Soccer last hosted a National Competition in 2009 when Richmond played host to the U16 National All-Star Championships. As part of ongoing efforts to increase the quantity and quality of competitions in BC, 2014 will mark the second year in a row that BC Soccer will host a National Club Championship. Kamloops Youth Soccer Association is well advanced in planning to host the 2013 under-16 National Club Championships on McArthur Island Park this October.

Don Dancey added “ I want to express a thanks to Kamloops Youth Soccer Association and Coastal FC for helping BC Soccer to achieve our goal of improving the level of competitions held in BC “
