BC Soccer's Strategic Plan Update

New BC Soccer building, new website, free coach education Initiatives, and enhancement to Provincial Championships highlight BC Soccer’s completed deliverables

Vancouver BC November 28, 2013 – BC Soccer is almost one year on from the completion of their strategic plan and although there is still much to be completed by 2015, free coach education Initiatives, a new BC Soccer building and website, and the enhancement of Provincial Championships highlight what BC Soccer has already delivered.

“We wanted to develop a Strategic Plan that would help us focus on overarching goals and priorities,” said Roger Barnes President of BC Soccer. “The plan really helped everyone focus on priorities that were defined by our key stakeholders including our membership and I am very happy with everything that we have accomplished in the first year. Coach education was one of the main priorities on the Strategic Plan and I’m very happy to say that in addition to the free Grassroots and Active Start coaching courses BC Soccer is now offering the Fundamentals and Learn to Train coaching courses free to clubs and leagues that request and deliver the course before March 31, 2014.”

One of BC Soccer’s other major priorities was to find a new office space which they successfully completed earlier this year with their purchase of a new space on Lougheed Highway.  Along with their new space, BC Soccer also launched and entire new website this year that better aligns with their brand and increases user ease and functionality.

“Developing the strategic plan was not an easy task but it has been very successful helping everyone, including myself, focus  efforts on specific goals and objectives,” said Paul Mullen, Executive Director of BC Soccer. “We revisit our Strategic Plan throughout the year and we incorporate it into our day to day work as well as the special events we put on throughout the year.”

Enhancing the experience for participants at the Provincial Championships is a large focus of BC Soccer’s Strategic Plan and already a lot has been done to increase awareness of the competitions as well as increase the activations and player enjoyment at the championships.  At the 2013 Provincial Championships BC Soccer’s partners hosted activations including a Whitecaps FC residency game at the Provincial A Cup.  In 2013 the Adult Championships were also highlighted with a live stream of the Provincial Cup Draw and BC Soccer is looking to build on these activations for 2014.

BC Soccer’s Strategic plan has six priority directions, Support of Membership, Competitions and Soccer Events, Financial and Organizational Management, Governance, Player and Coach Development and Referee development.  These have been developed in conjunction with member and stakeholder feedback.
