BC Soccer introduces Soccer Hall of Fame and Heritage Archives Website

Following months of work in conjunction with a succesful Federal Grant application, the new Hall of Fame and Archives site is now live.

March 2 – Vancouver BC

British Columbia has a glorious past in the game of soccer. Now fans, observers and historians of the beautiful game have a place to explore the people and events that helped shape soccer in our Province.

It was an exhaustive process that began with dozens of boxes full of memorabilia, photos and documents…all needing context, digitization, and sorting.

While these treasures of our past were being gathered, BC Soccer's Hall of Fame committee had already begun the process of creating criteria to recognize those British Columbians who had represented the game with excellence.

Combining a digital Hall of Fame with an Archives component seemed a logical approach.

In the Spring of 2019, the entire project received a major boost when Libraries and Archives Canada approved a Federal Grant for the project.

BC Soccer would like to acknowledge Past President Roger Barnes for pursuing the grant, and the countless hours spent creating the web-site data base.   Assisting Roger in collecting and sorting archive material, was past BC Soccer Director Rob Brown, who also served as Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee.  Also making critical contributions to that committee over the past year were BC Soccer President Kjeld Brodsgaard, Don Moslin, Don Dancey, Debbie Pudek.

Not only did mountains of material and images have to be categorized, but in order to create a more searchable data base, the individuals within some of the 800 photographs collected, had to be identified.  That process involved a group of long-service soccer "illuminates" who spent an afternoon going through each photo.

The website is now live at hertiage.bcsoccer.net and more material will be added as new HOF members are inducted, and more documents, photos and publications are collected.
