BC Soccer deliver’s its Second of Three Regional Grassroots Development Visits

In support of its Grassroots Development Service Plan, BC Soccer delivered its second of three Regional Grassroots Development Visits intended for regional coaches, players & parents within the Kootenay’s on June 6th through June 9th.

“It was great to see all of the BC Soccer staff and hope we can continue on this path moving forward because we can now say, look what BC Soccer can provide from a guidance and the on field component as it relates to the coaching and player development side of the game”, stated Sid Compston and Executive with Kootenay South Youth Soccer

The visit, featuring a public presentation and panel discussion in Trail, focused on BC Soccer supporting two streams of development for both coaches and players within the province. It also provided an overview of the vision and details of the Canadian Soccer Associations Long Term Player Development.

Friday featured a coaching workshop in Castelgar which was delivered by Andrew Haines, Luca Dalla Pace and Markus Reinkens, demonstrating ways to create age appropriate practices that are safe, fun, and challenging for the specific age group within the community stream of play.

“It was extremely encouraging to see all the participating coaches at the workshop. Their overall commitment within the workshop demonstrates their willingness to learn age appropriate content and receive guidance in the delivery of valuable sessions for the regions players” stated BC Soccer Staff Coach and Goalkeeping Development / LTPD Coordinator , Luca Dalla Pace.

Saturday and Sunday’s activities focused on observing the u14 boys Columbia-Kootenay play downs, as well as appreciating the development focused atmospheres around the under 6 to under 12 programming that took place in Nelson and Boundary youth soccer associations.

“The goal of BC Soccer’s Regional Grassroots Development Visits are to bring communities together, to maximize participation and increase awareness about the importance, and benefits, for supporting both grassroots and high performance streams of development. BC Soccer’s staff coaches and regional grassroots development tutors will continue to address topics such as: why it is important to participate in coaching education, what age should athletes focus specifically on soccer, as well as addressing competition at the early stages of Long Term Player Development,” stated staff coach and grassroots development coordinator, Andrew Haines.

In line with BC Soccer strategic objectives, to introduce grassroots initiatives and to increase the number of Soccer Development staff visits to the membership,  BC Soccer will be delivering another Regional Grassroots Development Visit in the Upper Island in early September 2013.
