Posted on May 9th, 2013 by BC Soccer

Vancouver, BC: BC Soccer today announced its rosters for the second phase of its Provincial Development Program with 160 boys and girls from across the Province chosen to participate in high performance training activities which include on and off field training and match play.

The program commences May 14th and culminates with participation in the Portland Timbers Cup on May 24-26 weekend at U13 to U16 age groups.

“We are very pleased and excited for the players and program as we move into phase second of the 2013 Provincial Development Program.  Additional scouting and recommendations for the program has yielded a 36% player turnover from Phase One to Phase Two.”,  stated Michael Findlay, Director of Soccer Development BC Soccer.
“We have been able to expand the rosters to twenty (20) players in the first two phases to provide an even more in depth talent identification of potential high performance players. We are also very encouraged to see every EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League Club represented within these phase one selections along with players from regions outside the lower mainland such as Vancouver Island, the North region and the Thompson Okanagan. The program will once again provide these players with the opportunity to train and participate within an advanced high performance environment with the goal of developing themselves for the next level of play through our development partners the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and our Canadian National Youth Teams Programming”, Findlay added.
It is the goal and one of the key strategic objectives of BC Soccer to continue the growth and provide standards for the recognized Provincial Development Program. This will provide identified high performance soccer players in British Columbia an opportunity to reach their full potential within the overall BC Soccer / Canadian Soccer Association model for high performance development.
“The Vancouver Whitecaps programming would not be as effective in the identification of players in the province if it was not for the partnership between the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League and BC Soccer’s Provincial Development Program. We remain committed to improving our process of scouting, screening and selecting the top talents from such a strong breeding ground”, stated Stuart Neely, High Performance Manager for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC the development partner of BC Soccer and the EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League.
The BC Soccer Provincial Development Program will be delivered in three phase’s with the May’s  activity being phase two; the objective of this phase is to continue to educate the players on the expectations and standards required for players at this level.

The final phase (Phase Three) of the program, July 1st to 28th for U13 to U14 Male and Females and July 1st to 21st, 2013 for U15 to U16 Male and Females is the culmination of the program and main competition platform. Players will be tested in two competition formats headlined by the CSA Regional competitions and National Championships. In the final phase 18 players will be selected to each team with selections again coming from club recommendations and BC Soccer Development Staff scouting.

BC Soccer Provincial Development Program selections for each phase of training and development are made through scouting of EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League training and match play environments, recommendations by EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League Team Head Coach or Technical Director, evaluation and assessment within ongoing Provincial Development Program Activities and additional scouting procedures will be delivered through BC Soccer regional visits and club coach player recommendations.
