89 BCSPL Players Commit to Universities

89 EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League Graduating Players Head to Universities and Colleges

Vancouver BC, October 1, 2014 – It was another successful year for EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) players as 89 graduating players committed to Universities and Colleges across North America.  Players from seven BCSPL clubs with U17 teams committed to universities which included: UBC Okanagan, University of Calgary, Western, McGill, University of British Columbia, University of Fraser Valley, and more.

“We want to wish the 89 graduating players who are headed to play for colleges and universities the best of luck in both their soccer careers and their studies,” said Carlos Grosso, Chair of BC Soccer High Performance Committee. “It is wonderful to see so many players continue their soccer careers at universities across BC, Canada and even into the United States and it is true testament to the quality of players and coaches in the BCSPL.”

Fusion FC, Surrey United SC, Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC, Mountain United FC, Fraser Valley FC, Coastal FC, and Thompson Okanagan FC all had players commit to universities making for one of the most successful BCSPL seasons to date. This is the third year of the BCSPL and each year has been more successful than the past with 71 graduating players moving on to universities last year.

“It has been my experience in the recruiting process that the high standard of the BCSPL facilitates the development of potential student athletes whom are more likely to be CIS ready,” said Troye Flannery, Head Coach Women’s Soccer, with the University of Calgary Dinos.  “Our program has certainly benefited from the BCSPL and we will continue to look west in our recruiting process.”

"As a CIS head coach I have found that the players we have been able to recruit from the top programs in the BCSPL are better prepared for the college game,” said Dante Zanatta, Head Coach Men’s Soccer UBC Okanagan. “Technically, physically and tactically these players are being able to contribute at an earlier stage.”
