BC Soccer Mourns the Loss of BC's Futsal Pioneer, Charlie Cuzzetto

It is with heavy hearts that BC soccer announces the loss of Charlie Cuzzetto.

Charlie has left an indelible impact on soccer and futsal in British Columbia. In a career that spanned over 50 years, Charlie was a founding member of Futsal Canada and sat on the Canada Soccer Board until recently.

Cuzzetto also coached and managed Canadian teams at four Futsal World Championships (Spain 1985, Australia 1988, Italy 1991, Argentina 1996). He also represented Canada in numerous international competitions and served as Head of Delegation, Team Manager, Coach, and Match Commissioner across several FIFA and CONCACAF events.

As a pioneer for the sport, Charlie Cuzzetto was not afraid to break down barriers. He led the planning, organization and hosting of the inaugural Aboriginal Indoor Soccer (Futsal) Cup (Canada–Australia, 1987–88) and the first National Youth Futsal Championships in BC in 2012.

It is through his tireless efforts that BC Soccer has chosen to rename the Men's Provincial Futsal Championship in Charlie's honour, officially naming the competition: The Charlie Cuzzetto Men's Futsal Provincial Cup.

Charlie Cuzzetto’s name is synonymous with futsal in British Columbia and Canada. His contributions to BC Soccer as a past President and Board Member are why he has been recognized as Life Member of BC Soccer and in 2025 was inducted to the BC Soccer Hall of Fame.

He will be greatly missed by his Family, Friends, Colleagues and everyone he touched through the love of Soccer and Futsal in BC and across the country.

Charlie was 76 years old.
