BC Soccer’s Coaching Development Department created the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM, which is a Coach Education initiative offered to aspiring coaches who wish to engage in their personal soccer development through experiential opportunities being involved in elite programming in British Columbia at the youth level. This opportunity is made available in conjunction with the established BC Soccer Provincial Teams Program. Its aim is to provide the chance for coaches to develop through program experiences, engage in coach mentorship by working closely with the Technical Staff of BC Soccer and to advance through the National Certification Pathway.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
1. To TARGET aspiring Coaches in the game who wish to experience hands-on opportunities and learn more about coaching.
2. To PROVIDE a positive, safe and challenging learning environment for Coaches in the game of soccer.
3. To OFFER guidance through the involvement and the delivery of a developmental program through responsible and challenging task completion.
4. To ASSIST in establishing the confidence required for coaches to advance within the recognized path of certification as outlined by the Canadian Soccer Association.
PROGRAM OUTLINE
The COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM is extended to coaches in an Assistant/Apprentice role (Male or Female), who are accepted to the program through an application process. An annual curriculum is provided to these Coaches at the beginning of their term who are responsible for completing various tasks. These tasks are aimed at harmonizing with the National Certification Pathway and its program content at various levels.

PROCESS
1. Annually (in the late summer and early fall), interested coaches must apply to the call for applications - Provincial Teams Program for Assistants / Apprentice positions.
2. Coaches will be appointed into positions limited to availability and based on an interview or a review process.
3. Selected coaches are tasked to complete a workbook during their term and submit it to the attention of the Coaching Development Department by the submission deadline.
4. The mentoring Head Coach engages in feedback on the tasks completed (in the workbook) prior to submitting it.
5. A review of the work will be completed and Coaches will be provided with feedback from BC Soccer’s Coaching Development Department outlining recommendations of future involvement as well as potential certification coursing benefits in the future.
REVIEW / EVALUATION
At the completion of the Provincial Team Program, Coaches will have a scheduled meeting with the Head Coach and review the following:
Ø The experiences within the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM
Ø The Coach’s personal performance
Ø Guidance for the future
The mentoring Head Coach will complete a “Review / Feedback” form within the workbook as it pertains to the coach’s involvement within the program.
PROGRAM TERM LIMITS
Involvement in the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM is aimed for a maximum of two (2) terms thereby offering a rotation of coaches who can benefit from this opportunity and its coach educational experiences.
COACHING CERTIFICATION
- With successful completion of PHASE I-II, coaches will be encouraged to pursue the next level of certification within British Columbia.
- Coaches in good standing during the program will have their course fees covered to meet the objectives of the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM in support of advancing within the certification pathway.
- These fees are only applicable for the next available course and to be taken within a calendar year up to and including the B License National only
- B National candidates will be subject to the BC Soccer Candidate Selection Policy as outlined and it does not guarantee successful application.
