With its continued advancements within the area of player development, the British Columbia Soccer Association’s Provincial Teams Program has become a symbol for players and coaches who are dedicated to enhancing the development opportunities for elite players at the Regional, Provincial, and National Team level of play.
The Provincial Teams Program will continue to provide a player first focus as it relates to its program mandate. The four-month male and female program will offer:
- Professional and nationally certified levels of coaching.
- Monitored training to match play ratios
- Minimum playing time standards
- Maximum match play
- On and off field development elements and
- Certified medical staff to all its participants.
This provincial wide development program, which includes a seven month evaluation process, ultimately selects a total of 144 male and female players from the ages of U13 through U16.
Once selected, these players enter a responsible but intense professional training and development environment. This environment includes domestic and international experiential soccer travel opportunities. These development focused trips have been created to provide the best possible opportunities for players to experience and benefit from the travel and training environment they may encounter at the international level of play.
The 2009 Season Schedule will be announced in Spring 2009.
If a player is successfully selected to one of the BCSA Provincial Team Programs, is there a cost?
Approximately 10 years ago the BCSA Membership (districts, who represent the clubs, who in turn represent the players) voted in favour of the Provincial Program to be a stand alone, pay as you pay program. Therefore, YES there is a cost associated with each program; however the program fee is based on a cost recovery formula which means each player only covers the cost for them to be apart of the program.
It is the goal of the British Columbia Soccer Association to continue the growth and provide standards for a recognized Provincial Teams Program.
This will provide the elite soccer players in British Columbia an opportunity to reach their full potential within the overall British Columbia Soccer Association / Canadian Soccer Association model for development, which supports the CSA Long Term Development Model.

"We are pleased to see over the years how the BCSA’s program has advanced on numerous levels and helped produce a number of talented players, many of which have gone on to the Male and Female U17 and U20 Canadian National Youth Teams Program." said Michael Findlay Senior Staff Coach and Director of Football Development. “It is a complement to a number of individuals throughout our province that these types of accomplishments have occurred and demonstrate the positive direction it has taken and we will continue to strive to be the leader in Canada at this level of programming”
